Each S-STEM recipient will serve as a Research Assistant in their first year of attendance at CSUSB. Faculty mentors will determine the tasks these students are to complete, ranging from shadowing to doing more complex research tasks. They will do assigned tasks throughout the entirety of one academic quarter and will write a short summary of the knowledge they gathered throughout the 10 weeks. Students will receive a $500 stipend following their quarter of participation. This program will be the first that S-STEM students participate in and will prepare them to participate in the Summer Research Apprenticeship and eventually become a Peer Mentor for the Peer Support program. This program should be a stepping stone for S-STEM students to get greater research opportunities.
